Nowadays, there are more than seventy small modular reactors (SMR) designs around the world on different stages of development and implementation. Most of the SMR designs adopt advanced or inherent safety features and are deployable either as a single or multi-module plant.

In recent years, the growth of interest is observed with regard to perspective technologies of thermonuclear fusion, as to alternative energy sources, the operation of which does not cause carbon dioxide emission to the atmosphere.

The 27th annual meeting of the Forum of Nuclear Safety Authorities of the Countries Operating VVER Type Reactors (VVER Forum) took place from November 30 to December 2, 2021, via videoconference.

Rostechnadzor issued operating licenses to FSUE Atomflot for operation of the nuclear-powered icebreaker Siberia that had completed trial trip in the Baltic Sea. The License was issued on the basis of safety analysis review for the icebreaker operation carried out by SEC NRS, the scientific and technical support organization for Rostechnadzor.

The first meeting of the Management Board of the Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP) was held via videoconference on January 13, 2022.

In accordance with a number of state contracts the Russian Federation constructs several dozens of NPP units abroad and produces nuclear fuel for them. Besides, the Russian Federation implements spent nuclear fuel (SNF) reprocessing services for some of these NPP units.

The Computer Code "Calculator of Radiation and Thermophysical Characteristics of Spent Nuclear Fuel (v2.0)" was introduced into the Registry of Computer Codes under the registry No. 2021617328 dated of 13.05.2021.

For the period from 12th to 16th of July 2021, Ural Interregional Territorial Department of  Rostechnadzor for supervision of nuclear and radiation safety carried out an inspection of the completed construction of Cyclotron Centre for Nuclear Medicine with proton accelerator

On August 16, 2021, as part of the visit of the high-level delegation of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Russia, Ziaul Hasan, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Bangladesh, Haque Md. Muzammel, Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA), and Akbar Mohammad Shawkat, Director of Rooppur NPP Project, the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), visited Rostechnadzor to discuss licensing issues in the implementation of the Rooppur NPP construction project
