News from the ETSON General Assembly Meeting - June 2025
The ETSON General Assembly convened on June 25-26, 2025, at the Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Hungary. Representatives from member organizations gathered to discuss key topics and make significant decisions for ETSON's future.
New ETSON Board Elected
A new board was unanimously elected by all GA members for a three-year term. Federico Rocchi of ENEA (Italy) was welcomed as the new President of ETSON. Florence-Nathalie Sentuc of GRS (Germany) and Frederic Wheeler of RSD (UK) will serve as Vice Presidents, with Wheeler representing ETSON's associated members. Olivier Dubois of ASNR (France) has assumed the role of Board Secretary, and Mitja Ursic of JSI (Slovenia) has succeeded Leon Cizelj as Treasurer.
ASNR Joins ETSON
On January 1, 2025, the French Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority (ASNR) was established through the merger of former ETSON member IRSN and the former authority Autorité de sûreté nucléaire (ASN). The General Assembly amended the network's statutes to approve ASNR's membership, aligning with the IAEA's definition of TSOs formulated in the IAEA-TECDOC-1835 which allows for a TSO being an independent part of the national regulatory body.
Highlights from the TSO Conference and TOSCA
The IAEA TSO Conference, held last December with substantial support from ETSON, recognized the critical link between expertise and research. It emphasized the need to build resilience in managing the safety of nuclear facilities and activities, particularly in the face of disruptive events like climate change, pandemics, and armed conflicts. TSOs are crucial in developing this resilience. The conference also highlighted the importance of international collaboration among TSOs, noting the significant roles of networks such as the TSO Forum, ETSON, and other regional networks, which are vital for both established and emerging countries. Additionally, the conference stressed the need to maintain expertise by attracting and retaining younger generations.
In this context, the General Assembly reaffirmed ETSON's commitment to developing the TOSCA methodology within the framework of the IAEA's Technical and Scientific Support Organization Forum and approved additional funding.

The next Junior Staff Programme (JSP) Summer Workshop will be hosted by Vuje on July 4, 2025, focusing on safety for research installations. The deadline for submitting papers for the ETSON Award 2025 is July 18, 2025.
Upcoming ETSON Conference
The next ETSON Conference will be organized by RSD and held in Manchester, UK, on October 27-28, 2025. The first part of the conference will focus on the challenges faced by national TSOs in an international nuclear market.
