During the week of October 6–10, 2025, the ETSON JSP Workshop took place in Trnava, Slovakia, organized this year by VUJE, a.s. The main theme of the workshop was “Safety Analyses for Research Facilities.”

The first three days were dedicated to technical presentations and discussions from participants focused on this central topic. Each presentation was followed by engaging Q&A that encouraged knowledge exchange and professional discussion among young nuclear experts.

In addition to the presentations, there were also two case studies, where participants worked in groups to solve complex, non-standard challenges. These activities provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen teamwork, enhance problem-solving skills, and stimulate creative thinking.

On Thursday, participants took part in a technical visit to the simulator of a nuclear power plant reactor’s control room. The simulator is a 1:1 scale replica of control room, providing a realistic environment for emergency training exercises. The group also visited a display simulator, which represents a scaled-down version of the control room used for demonstration and training purposes. Later, participants had the chance to experience an interactive virtual reality (VR) simulation, allowing them to visualize the entire primary circuit with the reactor, steam generators and primary loops. A unique opportunity was a visit to the experimental facility – the STU helium loop, designed for experimental support and investigation of natural circulation phenomena in the decay heat removal system of gas-cooled fast reactors. And as last were visited VUJE´s material laboratories.

The final day of the workshop featured a guest lecture by Ing. Boris Kvizda, an expert in thermohydraulic safety analyses. He delivered an in-depth and captivating presentation on the ALLEGRO reactor, further exploring the topic of Safety Analyses for Research Facilities and sharing valuable insights from his professional experience.

Overall, the ETSON JSP Workshop 2025 provided an excellent platform for learning, networking, and collaboration among young professionals in the nuclear safety community. Participants left with new knowledge, practical experience, and inspiration for future work in the field of nuclear research and safety analysis.
